Based on The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood, the show forces the audience to reconsider the events of The Odyssey from a female perspective. More specifically, from Penelope’s viewpoint as the wife of the fearless (and absent) adventurer and her twelve handmaidens who were cut down before their innocence could be affirmed. Based on Atwood’s keen attention to gender and class disparities, the show forces its audience to question how our cultural biases influence mythology and vice versa.
